Balloons

Since 8 April 2019 the use of a balloon has been subject to compliance with the requirements of Commission Regulation (EU) 2018/395 13 March 2018.

• Acceptable means of compliance (AMC) and guidance material (GM) (courtesy translation with no legal value)

This regulation regulates both the commercial operation and the non-commercial operation of balloons. In the specific case of the non-commercial operation, no authorisation or declaration of compliance is required to operate a balloon.

On the other hand, the above-mentioned regulation includes the provisions on initial airworthiness, continuous airworthiness and pilot licences, so that a single regulation contains all the requirements necessary to use a balloon, thus facilitating access to and understanding of the applicable requirements for the user.
