International participation

International vocation

  • The State Aviation Safety Agency is a body with a clearly international vision.
  • EASA’s contribution to the international civil aviation system is one of the elements of the strategic vision of the role of our organisation, given that one of the basic characteristics of commercial aviation, and in particular air transport, is its internationality. The aim is to ensure that international standards correspond to the levels of safety and environmental protection that our society demands without unwarranted burdens on our industry, national and European. AESA carries out a continuous process of evaluating its international presence, in order to identify new opportunities to maintain an effective presence and to assess the efficiency of the presence that has been maintained to ensure an adequate use of available resources
  • All the effort made results in EASA being a benchmark in Europe and in the World

International Technical Cooperation

The State Aviation Safety Agency has, within its objectives, the promotion of air transport safety at a global level, taking into account the fundamental role that air transport plays in the development of socio-economic exchange between countries and the importance of maintaining adequate levels of safety to ensure the growth of air transport.

EASA’s activities are part of the European Union’s strategy for cooperation with third countries and one of the benefits of international coordination is to make the knowledge of Spanish industry available to the market, strengthening cooperation mechanisms with other bodies in the aeronautical field, thus creating synergies and contributing to new business opportunities abroad.

In line with this premise, EASA is developing cooperation activities with third countries aimed at facilitating and enhancing the development and competitiveness of the aeronautical and air transport industries, through cooperation agreements or technical assistance to improve aviation safety standards for the benefit of citizens who use air transport.

Within this framework, EASA also participates in the European Union Aviation and Aviation Safety Twinning Programmes with third countries, which aim to bring the aviation institutions of neighbouring countries, their regulations and aviation safety standards closer to Europeans, with the aim of improving safety and security for citizens who use air transport.

Among the activities that AESA carries out is:

  • Assessing the capacities of different National Aviation Agencies (NAAs) to complement and develop their safety oversight functions.
  • Enhancing the capacities of third-country aviation authorities by including different expert training activities.

Cooperation takes place in the following regions: Europe (Ukraine, Bosnia Herzegovina, etc.), Latin America (Mexico, Guatemala, Colombia, Venezuela, Argentina, Peru, Uruguay, etc.) Africa (Morocco, Algeria, Jordan, Israel, Mauritania, etc.) and Asia (China, Vietmam, Malaysia, Armenia, Tajikistan, etc.)

International Working Groups

AESA maintains an active presence in more than 300 panels, working groups, committees and other fora in the European Union, EASA, ICAO, CEAC, Eurocontrol, and others.

The participation of EASA in the bodies responsible for drawing up regulations on operational aviation safety, civil aviation safety and its environmental impact, as well as coordinating aspects of its implementation, allows us to:

  • Influence the process, so that the final product responds to national and European aspirations and interests.
  • Know the projects under development, in order to be able to anticipate changes that affect national and European industry.
  • Gain in-depth knowledge of the standard so that it can be properly interpreted when it comes to its application.
  • Exchange best practices with other countries.
  • Be aware of the state of the art in the subject matter of regulatory developments.
  • Make Spain present as a top-notch country in a strategic sector at a global level and leading in the use of technology.
