What’s an event?

An event is defined as any safety-related event that endangers or, if not corrected or addressed, may endanger an aircraft, its occupants or any other person, including in particular accidents and serious incidents.

List of occurrences to be reported

The list of notifiable occurrences is contained in Regulation 2015/1018 and its consultation is necessary to know the notifiable occurrences by field of activity:

  • Operation of the aircraft;
  • Technical conditions, maintenance and repair of aircraft;
  • Air navigation services and facilities;
  • Aerodromes and ground services;
  • Aircraft other than complex motor-powered aircraft, including gliders and lighter-than-air vehicles.

Despite the existence of this list of occurrences to be reported, in case of doubt, AESA recommends the reporting of the occurrence when it is considered that there may be an actual or potential hazard to aviation safety.

The Event Reporting System, in application of the concept of Fair Culture, is aimed at the prevention of future accidents and incidents, and the notified information cannot be used to sanction or demand responsibility, unless intentional or gross negligence is committed.

It is important to point out that AESA's SNS does not process complaints, claims or denunciations. These types of communications are processed by other EASA units, have different objectives from those of the SNS and must be sent through the appropriate channels, which you can find in the following link.

In the image below, a brief distinction is made between the concepts:

que es un suceso

Therefore, if the intention is to report a fact to AESA, you must do so, in writing, through one of the following ways:

  • General Register of AESA, located at Paseo de la Castellana 112 in Madrid,
  • In one of the places provided for in Article 16.4 of Law 39/2015, of 1 October.
  • Telematically via the AESA website
