Why report an event?

Experience shows that, before an accident occurs, incidents or other types of deficiencies often occur that are not always detected, and which reveal the existence of safety risks.

In this sense, the existence of a database of events, categorized by typologies and by their level of risk, and fed by professionals and organizations of the sector, allows to improve the safety of civil aviation through the identification and analysis of potentially dangerous trends, facilitating the identification, proposal and implementation of effective preventive measures in all areas of civil aviation.

All this in the context of a Just Culture, by which it is admitted that error is possible and should not be punishable unless there are intentional or seriously negligent attitudes,

The main functions of AESA in relation to the Event Reporting System are:

  • Receipt, processing and analysis of reported occurrences;
  • Integration of information into the European Central Repository;
  • Dissemination of this anonymised information to stakeholders, with the aim of providing them with the information they need to improve aviation safety.
