Frequently asked questions

Depending on the particular situation of your licence there are two possible cases:

  • Case 1: The person concerned holds only one of the ratings whose endorsement is being amended.  The date of validity of the SET LAND or SET SEA rating shall be the same as that currently held in the rating being amended.

In the case of being the holder of a rating that prior to 13/02/2025 had LAND and SEA variants, for the endorsement of the new SET LAND and/or SET SEA rating, flights in the variants to be endorsed must be accredited and, if so accredited, two endorsements will be obtained (SET LAND and SET SEA) with the validity date previously held.

  • Case 2: The person concerned holds two or more of the ratings whose endorsement is being amended.

The date of validity of the SET LAND and/or SET SEA rating shall be the most valid date with respect to the current dates of the ratings being amended. In the case of having LAND flights and SEA flights in the same or different ratings, they shall be credited and the validity date shall proceed with the validity date in the same way as in Case 1.

No, for revalidation of the SET class rating it is only necessary to comply with the revalidation requirements of FCL.740.A(b)(3) in one of the variants.

The exercise of privileges on the remaining SET variants held shall be in accordance with FCL.710(d).

Whether the pilot can exercise privileges in all variants or not shall be known to the person concerned, who shall be responsible for verifying that he/she complies with the requirements of FCL.710(d).

He shall undertake the new rating course at an approved ATO. From 13 February 2025 SET LAND and SET SEA are no longer variants of the same rating, becoming separate ratings with separate courses taught at an ATO.

The new rating course must be taken at an approved ATO; From 13 February 2025 SET LAND and SET SEA are no longer variants of the same rating, but are now separate ratings with separate courses given at an ATO.

No, the initial training is received exclusively in one of the variants.

If, once the variant has been registered, you wish to practice in another variant, you must take the appropriate differences or familiarisation course and record this in the logbook.

As the instructor certificate is noted on the licence, when you complete the licence update procedure (see question 4), you will receive an updated instructor certificate as an ex-officio action by EASA without any action on your part.

As the examiner certificate is associated with the licence document and the instructor certificate, when updating the licence, EASA will automatically initiate the procedure to update your examiner certificate.

The validity date of your SET LAND and/or SET SEA instructor certificate will be the same as your current date.

No, your privileges as an instructor are limited to the variants for which you have completed the differences or familiarisation course, as appropriate, once you meet the requirements set out in FCL.915.
