Madrid, 11 February 2022 (AESA)

Today, women and girls face barriers of many kinds, sometimes very subtle, that make their presence in science difficult. On 15 December 2015, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 11 February the International Day of Women and Girlsin Science, inviting education and public awareness activities to help achieve greater participation and progress of women and girls in science.

The State Aviation Safety Agency (AESA) has just joined the STEAM Alliance for Women’s Talent: “Girls in Science”, of the Ministry of Education, to encourage the participation of girls and young people in training in STEAM disciplines, linked to science, technology, engineering and mathematics, in connection with the arts and the humanities.

The STEAM Alliance aims to increase the participation of girls and young people in these disciplines, and it is therefore necessary to promote action and join efforts among the different social partners to achieve this objective.

AESA is committed to joining efforts and strengthening synergies between administrations, businesses, civil society, educational and training centres and the media with STEAM projects for the promotion of these vocations among girls and young people. It is a commitment to female talent that promotes empowerment at an early age in education and contributes to closing the gender gap in access to these disciplines.

From AESA we want to help make the work of women scientists visible, create female roles in the fields of science and technology and promote practices that promote gender equality in the scientific and technological field.

We leave you some tokens about women pioneers in the past and the present in the field of aviation and science.
