Extremadura authorizes its first aerodrome with the collaboration of AESA

The Autonomous Community of Extremadura has authorised the opening to traffic of the Don Benito aerodrome (Badajoz), an infrastructure for restricted use intended for sports aviation and daytime visual flight operations.

This is the first traffic opening file processed by the Extremaduran Board within its competences in the field of restricted-use aerodromes.

The authorization represents an advance in the development of the competence model for this type of infrastructure and highlights the importance of collaboration between the autonomous communities and the State Aviation Safety Agency (AESA) to guarantee the highest standards of operational safety.

An example of cooperation between administrations

The processing of the file has required the coordinated participation of different administrations and competent bodies. In this context, AESA has technically accompanied the Junta de Extremadura, resolving the doubts raised during the procedure and exercising the functions assigned to it by the regulations in terms of operational safety.

For this process, the Agency carried out a technical inspection to verify compliance with safety standards and issued a favourable resolution attesting that the aerodrome met the necessary requirements for its opening to traffic.

The commissioning of the Don Benito aerodrome, with a runway of 800 meters in length and 15 meters in width, is also an important step for Extremadura in the exercise of its competences and reinforces a working model based on institutional collaboration and shared commitment to safe aviation.

I National Aerodrome Forum

This milestone for Extremadura reflects the importance of maintaining spaces for collaboration between administrations and the aeronautical sector. For this reason, AESA is organising the 1st National Aerodrome Forum at its headquarters on 8 October.

This meeting aims to promote the exchange of knowledge and strengthen coordination between autonomous communities, infrastructure managers and public bodies, thus contributing to the promotion of restricted-use aerodromes in Spain. All the information, program and registration here.
