Madrid, 4 July 2024 (AESA)

The State Aviation Safety Agency (AESA), as the National Aviation Safety Supervisory Authority and as a contracting party to the Convention on International Civil Aviation, has formalised the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA) of the Republic of Greece. The signing of this collaboration aims to enhance and optimize safety procedures at Greek airports.

In addition, this agreement has been formalized in collaboration with SENASA, responsible for contributing to its implementation through administrative and financial management.

The MoU was signed online on 21 June by Montserrat Mestres, Director of AESA; Andrés Arranz, Chairman and CEO of SENASA; and Christos Tsitouras, Governor of the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA). The agreement was also formalised in the context of the last EASA Committee, held in Brussels on 27 and 28 June, with the meeting between Pablo Hernández-Coronado, head of EASA’s International Strategy; Konstantinos Karageorgis, General Director of Aviation Activities, and George Iliopoulos, Head of Quality and Compliance, both representing the HCAA.

With the formalization of this collaboration, AESA intends to join efforts and collaborate with HCAA to improve the Airport Safety Surveillance Program of the Republic of Greece, providing the knowledge, skills and experience in accordance with the corresponding European regulations. With this, it seeks to contribute to the common objective of the European Aviation Safety Management System, ensuring that the civil aviation sector is a safe, efficient, economically sustainable and environmentally responsible global system.

The signing of this agreement ratifies AESA's commitment to promote international cooperation in civil aviation, respecting the rights and obligations assumed by Spain within the European Union. In addition, it is an impulse to place our country as a benchmark for safe, sustainable and efficient air transport.
