What is the difference between revalidating and renewing a rating?

  • Revalidation involves carrying out the procedure to maintain the vigor of the exercise of flight privileges. The revalidation procedure is always carried out before the rating expires.
  • Renewal means that the authorisation has expired and that the revalidation procedure has not been carried out in time and form. In this case, if you want to put your rating into force again, it will be renewed through an authorised training centre.

My examiner has referred the authorisation revalidation documentation to the flight test notification email address, is it sufficient to update my licence?

Independent of the notification of the flight test carried out by the examiner, the documentation derived from the flight test carried out must be sent to EASA through the channels currently established for this purpose. The documentation received via email is not subject to processing

I am exercising the privileges of a rating endorsed on an ICAO Third Country licence, is there any possibility of endorsing it on the PART FCL licence?

Provided that you meet the requirements for this, you have the possibility to undergo the procedure for acceptance of class or type ratings endorsed on licences from an ICAO third country. The following options are currently available:

  1. Annotation with restriction to ICAO Third Country registration.
  2. request prior authorisation from EASA for the endorsement of the rating without restriction to registration
  3. apply for both procedures

The validity period of my rating expired on 30.06.2020.After expiry, do I have any additional time to revalidate the rating?

No additional time margin is envisaged. Once the rating has expired without the revalidation procedure having been carried out in due time and form, and for the purposes of its entry into force, it shall be renewed at an ATO or DTO for PART FCL licences or at an ULM training centre for ULM licences.
