    You can obtain the certificate of theoretical subjects through our AESA Electronic Headquarters

Flight Examiner FCL

I want to be an examiner


    In order to obtain the FCL examiner certificate, the requirements set out in Sub-Part K of Regulation EU 1178/2011 for the type of certificate to which you aspire will be met and accredited.

PART FCL Flight Licenses

    In this section you can consult the information related to obtaining, maintaining and updating the PART FCL license, as well as other procedures associated with it.

Application forms for licences, ratings, certificates and language proficiency


PART FCL license format with electronic signature


Transfer of FCL license between member states EASA


    The transfer of license involves the change of EASA aeronautical authority responsible for the license.

    To request the transfer of the licence (change of aeronautical authority) you will send to EASA the documentation indicated for each case:

    • If you wish to transfer your license to AESA please follow the instructions here
    • If you wish to transfer your license to another EASA Aeronautical Authority, please follow the instructions provided here

Procedure for obtaining ATPL license


    The ATPL licensing procedure requires compliance and accreditation of a number of requirements before performing the ATPL skill test

    In all cases, both for applicants and for Spanish examiners and examiners authorised by other EASA Member States, the documentation will be sent through some of the options contemplated for it and never through email. You can consult the options to submit the documentation here

    After assessing the suitability of the examining party, if applicable, the express designation of the examiner or Letter of Authorisation to conduct the ATPL skill test shall be issued.

Third country licence verification ICAO/verification letter


    The aeronautical authorities may request the verification of licences issued by AESA by making their request through the email address licpiloto.aesa@seguridadaerea.es

Acceptance of type or class ratings entered in ICAO Third Country license


    If you find yourself exercising flight privileges of a valid ICAO third country licence rating, you can enter it on your PART FCL license.

Regulatory compliance

    General provisions: AESA is responsible for the regulatory activity in the field of civil aviation security against acts of unlawful interference (Aviation Security) according to national and international civil aviation provisions:

Planner Pilot License (SPL)

What is a glider?


    It is an aircraft heavier than air sustained in flight by the dynamic reaction of the air against its fixed lift surfaces and whose free flight does not depend on an engine.

How do I become a glider pilot?


What are the privileges of a sailplane pilot licence (SPL) holder?


    In accordance with SFCL.115, an SPL holder has the privileges to act as PIC on sailplanes:

    • without remuneration in non-commercial transactions;
    • in commercial transactions if it meets the following conditions:
      • has reached the age of 18,
      • has completed 75 flight hours or 200 launches or take-offs and landings as PIC on gliders.

    Notwithstanding the foregoing, the holder of an SPL with privileges as an instructor or examiner may receive remuneration in exchange for:

    • provide flight instruction for obtaining an SPL;
    • conduct skill tests and proficiency checks to obtain an SPL;
    • provide training and carry out testing and verification for privileges, ratings or certificates associated with an SPL.

    Both to apply for your license, after passing the theoretical and practical exams, and to update the content of the same, you must fill in and submit the application format and the documentation indicated:

Instructor (FI(S)) and flight examiner (FE(S)) certificates in glider


    Annex III (Part-SFCL) to Commission Regulation (EU) 2018/1976 of 14 December sets out the requirements for issuing licences to the flight crew of sailplanes and sets out the requirements for obtaining flight instructor certificates (SFCL.300) enabling the provision of glider flight training and sailplane flight examiner training enabling skill tests, proficiency checks and proficiency assessments (SFCL.400).

Balloon Pilot Licenses (BPL)

What is a balloon?


    t is a lighter-than-air aircraft, manned, generally non-motorised and supported in flight by the use of either a lighter-than-air gas or an on-board heater. According to the above there are the following kinds of balloon:

    • Hot air balloons:
      • Group A: Sail capacity up to 3 400 m3.
      • Group B: Sail capacity between 3 401 m3 and 6 000 m3.
      • Group C: Sail capacity between 6 001 m3 and 10 500 m3.
      • Group D: candle capacity exceeding 10 500 m3.
    • Gas balloons.
    • Mixed balloons.
    • Hot air airships (motorized).

How can I be a balloon pilot?


    In order to act as a balloon pilot it is necessary to obtain the balloon pilot licence (BPL) regulated in Annex III (Part-BFCL) to Commission Regulation (EU) 2018/395 of 13 March.

    To obtain the balloon pilot licence, the applicant must be at least 16 years of age and take a theoretical-practical course at an approved training organisation (ATO) or a declared training organisation (DTO).

    Likewise, certain psychophysical conditions must be met that are accredited by obtaining an aeronautical medical certificate class LAPL or a medical certificate class 2 when performing any of the following activities:

    • Commercial balloon flights for passengers.
    • A commercial operation other than the commercial carriage of passengers by balloon, with more than four persons on board the aircraft.

    After completing the course in an ATO or DTO, the applicant must pass a theoretical type test exam carried out by AESA as well as a practical exam that will consist of a flight test with a flight examiner.

What are the privileges of a balloon pilot license (BPL) holder?


    In accordance with requirement BFCL.115, the holder of a BPL has the privileges to act as PIC on balloons:

    • without remuneration in non-commercial transactions;
    • in commercial transactions if you are at least 18 years old and hold a rating for commercial transactions in accordance with point BFCL.215.

    Notwithstanding the foregoing, the holder of a BPL may receive remuneration, without having the qualification indicated above, if he has powers as an instructor or examiner and performs any of the following activities:

    • the provision of flight instruction for obtaining a BPL;
    • proficiency testing and proficiency verification for GLP;
    • training, testing and verification of the privileges, ratings or certificates associated with a GLP.

Instructor (FI(B)) and flight examiner (FE(B)) balloon certificates


    Annex III (Part-BFCL) to Commission Regulation (EU) 2018/395 of 13 March 2018 lays down the requirements for the issue of licences to balloon flight crew and sets out the requirements for obtaining flight instructor certificates (BFCL.300) enabling the provision of balloon flight training and balloon flight examiner enabling skill tests, proficiency checks and proficiency assessments (BFCL.400).
