Madrid, 2 February 2022 (AESA)

The Operational Safety Training Project (AVSAF) of the Spanish Aviation Safety Agency (AESA), which aims to improve and make more accessible and standardised, operational safety training at Spanish airports, will enter into force on 30 May.

The AVSAF (Aviation Safety) Training Project, which has been developed and coordinated with the entire Spanish airport sector — Ground Assistance Agents and Airport Managers — aims to ensure that all personnel with access (without accompaniment) to the area of movement of an airport, have standardised operational safety training at the national level and quality assurance in terms of safety.

To this end, during the last two years AESA has carried out three courses of different scope that will allow obtaining the different AVSAF training diplomas:

  • AVSAF for pedestrians, for unaccompanied access to the airport movement area.
  • AVSAF for Drivers, for the performance of tasks involving the handling and driving of vehicles or equipment in this area of the airport.
  • AVSAF for instructors, to be AVSAF instructor.

The AVSAF Training Diploma is valid for all companies and all Spanish airports that opt for the implementation of this training model. The Diploma will be personal for each worker and will be part of the necessary requirements to be able to access and drive through the area of movement of an airport together with specific local training on the particular airport, its configuration, its peculiarities, etc.

Therefore, as of May 30, all Airport Managers who wish to adopt the AVSAF model, will be able to require AVSAF diplomas for pedestrians or drivers in order to request new emissions or renewals of airport accreditations, both for access for unaccompanied personnel to the Aeronautical Operational Safety Zone (ZASO) and for Airport Driving Permits.
