Madrid, 23 June 2025 (AESA)

With the aim of promoting access to the profession of Aircraft Maintenance Technician (TMA) and giving visibility to existing job opportunities in the sector, especially in the field of general aviation, the State Aviation Safety Agency (AESA) and the Real Aero Club de España (RACE) have established a collaboration agreement aimed at promoting L-category licences.

L-category licences, regulated by Regulation (EU) 1321/2014-Part-66 and issued by AESA, allow the maintenance and certification of light aircraft in the general aviation sector, such as sailplanes, light aircraft, balloons and airships. In addition, they represent an accessible and approved route at European level to start a professional career in aircraft maintenance, with wide possibilities of development towards more far-reaching licenses.

In addition, as part of this joint initiative, EASA and RACE will facilitate the training of the TMAs and the preparation of the theoretical exams for obtaining the L-category licence by publishing a set of questions corresponding to the different modules. This resource shall be publicly available on the AESA website.

The agreement also provides for additional measures to improve access to and dissemination of these licences:

  • Disclosure of the professional value of L-category licences, showing their European character and their applicability throughout the national and international territory.

  • Promoting the EBA as a key profile for the present and future of aviation, both within and beyond our borders.

  • Promotion of interest among young people, highlighting the L-category license as a gateway to the aeronautical sector, with real possibilities of growth and professional development towards higher level licenses.

In the same vein, RACE will support applicants, not only in the theoretical preparation phase, but also during the development of the practical part. Likewise, AESA will promote the possibility of carrying out exams in different parts of the national territory to facilitate geographical access to candidates.

This collaboration reaffirms the commitment of both entities with the training, professionalization and visibility of technical personnel in the aeronautical field, actively contributing to respond to the growing demand for aircraft mechanics in Spain and Europe.
