Madrid, 23 June 2023 (ESA)

The State Aviation Safety Agency (AESA) has launched a survey on “Flight Time Limitations and Rest Requirements in Fire Fighting Operations” aimed exclusively at the group of firefighting pilots.

This survey is part of the work carried out by the Expert Group for the Study of Helicopters and Air Works, which established in September 2022 a specific working group composed of a broad representation of the sector, including but not limited to pilots, operators, administrations, physician and aeronautical psychologist in order to update the existing regulations on flight time and activity limitations and rest requirements (hereinafter FTL Flight Time Limitations) applicable to firefighting and search and rescue operations.

Considering that one of the tools frequently used in the framework of the regulatory developments processes by EASA and other environmental authorities is the survey, it is considered the use of this tool as a means of collecting information by the groups directly affected in order to give the greatest possible strength to the project.

For this reason, the State Aviation Safety Agency is grateful for the contribution of firefighting pilots by completing this survey, which will be of great help in the development of a regulatory framework adapted to the particularities of the firefighting operation.

This survey will be available until July 11 on the AESA website.
