Madrid, 7 November 2024 (EASA)

The State Aviation Safety Agency (AESA) has signed a collaboration agreement with the association Ellas Vuelan Alto (EVA), in an event held today at the headquarters of AESA in Madrid.

With this alliance, AESA is incorporated as a silver benefactor partner of EVA, reinforcing its commitment to gender equality in the aerospace sector and its alignment with the 2030 Safe, Sustainable and Connected Mobility Strategy. This strategy, which is part of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development, aims to integrate social and labour aspects in transport and promote gender equity, especially through its Axis 8, dedicated to "Social and labour aspects".

Axis 8 establishes as one of its objectives the creation of "specific measures to give visibility to the role of women in the sector" and contemplates Line of Action 8.4, relating to "Women in the transport and mobility sector", which seeks to consolidate the presence of women in the aerospace sector, involving both institutions and universities as well as the business and social sphere. According to this line of action, the integration of various actors in the sector will make it possible to achieve a special awareness towards gender equality.

The signing of this agreement is also in full harmony with the Strategic Plan of AESA, which, in its branch of Excellence, has as one of its fundamental objectives to promote equality and diversity in the aeronautical sector.

The director of AESA, Montserrat Mestres, stressed at the event that "accession to Ellas Vuelan Alto represents a firm step towards the integration of gender equality in the aeronautical sector, which cannot be left out of these policies. Our collaboration with EVA will enable more women to have a voice and visibility in a sector where their talents and skills are essential for the future”.

The president of Ellas Vuelan Alto, Gema Martín del Burgo, said after the signing ceremony that: “This agreement, which we signed today and makes AESA a silver partner of EVA, demonstrates the firm commitment of the State Aviation Safety Agency to the objectives of the association. The Agency, throughout its history, has always been led by women who have worked and work to increase the presence of women in positions of responsibility, but also to increase the base of women in the sector. It is a real pleasure to welcome AESA as a silver partner of EVA, we will continue to collaborate and work together as we have done to date.”

The agreement establishes that AESA will contribute, as a silver benefactor partner, to make visible the female talent in the aerospace sector through the communication of events organized by EVA, thus promoting awareness and recognition of the role of women in this industry among its employees. For its part, EVA will disseminate professional opportunities in AESA in its outreach activities in educational centers and in companies in the aerospace sector, consolidating the visibility of women in an area that covers the institutional, university, business and social spaces. Thus, Ellas Vuelan Alto, which celebrates its sixth anniversary this year, and AESA work together to consolidate an inclusive collaboration that promotes more equitable and sustainable mobility, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda.
