The State Aviation Safety Agency (AESA) and the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) have held a meeting at the headquarters of the Agency for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in order to establish a framework for international technical cooperation between the two authorities in the field of civil aviation.

This agreement was signed by Montserrat Mestres, Director of AESA, and Suttipong Kongpool, Director General of CAAT.

The objective of this collaboration is to promote and contribute to the strengthening of Thailand's civil aviation operations and activities through different disciplines, such as air operations, the regulation and supervision of airports and aircraft, and the development of advanced processes for the issuance of licenses and certifications, among others.

This MoU represents a synergy of efforts and collaboration aimed at harmonising civil aviation regulations and best practices globally. These initiatives are in line with the guidelines established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) under the Chicago Convention.

"With the signing of this Memorandum, we not only formalize a union, but we reaffirm the importance of collaboration in the field of aviation, in which the challenges go beyond national borders," said Montserrat Mestres during the signing of the agreement.

Study visit

In addition to the signing ceremony, the delegation of the Thai authority composed of 15 representatives posted to the seat of the Agency will participate in a study visit for three days. The aim of this activity will be to provide a comprehensive understanding of our respective regulatory environments and operational activities.

During the first two days, AESA technical staff will give information sessions with the aim of providing an overview of good practices and procedures in the field of economic supervision of the aviation sector. It will also address the implementation of ICAO's global CORSIA programme, aimed at reducing emissions in international aviation.

Finally, on the third day of the visit, participants will attend information sessions at the headquarters of the General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGAC) and at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, where airport manager Aena and the airline Iberia Express will make specialized presentations of their activity. The participation of these organizations will offer a specific vision from the scope of action of each of them.
