Madrid, 24 October 2025 (AESA)

The State Aviation Safety Agency (AESA) publishes a Safety Directive for air operators concerning Protective Breathing Equipment(PBE) manufactured by Safran Aerosystems.

For the safety of the flight, it is crucial that the PBE equipment is in perfect condition and that the crew has the necessary information and training on the procedures of use.

Therefore, the objective of this Safety Directive is to ensure the specific training and training of crews for the correct use of PBE equipment, ensuring its operation and preventing possible failures in the supply of oxygen during smoke situations in the cabin. Such training and training shall be provided to both flight crew and cabin crew (TCP).

This action follows the recommendations of the Commission for the Investigation of Civil Aviation Accidents and Incidents (CIAIAC) published by the incident that occurred on 3 August 2025. In this case, due to the impact with a bird, the presence of smoke in the cabin of an aircraft that had the PBE equipment of Safran Aerosystems was involved.

Given the serious safety risk that can arise from a failure in the supply of oxygen to crew members in cabin smoke situations, it is considered necessary to issue this Safety Directive to ensure the correct handling and use of PBE equipment manufactured by Safran Aerosystems entity, with part numbers (P/N) 15-40F-80 and 15-40F-11 and their corresponding series.

With this Directive, EASA aligns with the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), which has recently issued the Airworthiness Directive AD 2025-0222, incorporating the manufacturer's indications on the proper use of these equipment.
