  • This authorization allows for more complex operations with UAS for logistics operations in populated areas.
  • Awarded to CATUAV, to operate RigiTech's Eiger 3 aircraft

Madrid, 30 June 2026 (AESA)

The Spanish Aviation Safety Agency (AESA) has issued the first authorisation in Spain for operations with UAS intended for the transport of non-hazardous goods in populated areas. This authorisation has been issued under a level SAIL III  (Specific Assurance and Integrity Level) scenario, in accordance with the European regulatory framework (Regulation (EU) 2019/947).

Authorization has been granted to the CATUAV operator, to operate the RigiTech Eiger 3 aircraft, allowing operations beyond the visual range of the pilot (BVLOS). These operations include the capacity to transport and deliver non-hazardous goods in populated areas, which represents an advance towards the deployment of logistics services with drones in Spain.

This milestone reflects the degree of technological and operational maturity of the UAS ecosystem in our country, as well as the potential of innovative uses such as air logistics, always under the highest safety standards.

In addition, it reinforces AESA's commitment to boosting this strategic sector, working to facilitate the development of operations with UAS under a secure regulatory framework. With this, the Agency reaffirms its role as a key body for the development of the UAS sector in Spain, encouraging the adoption of new technologies and favoring the integration of operations with UAS in a safe, orderly and progressive way.
