Know your rights as a passenger to the situation in the Middle East

Know your rights as a passenger to the situation in the Middle East

Madrid 12 March 2026 (AESA)

As a result of the current situation in the Middle East, many passengers are currently facing disruption travelling from third countries to Spain with connections through the Middle East or even flying between the Middle East, Cyprus and Spain.

These circumstances are affecting all stakeholders in the air transport system. The rights of passengers facing disruption vary depending on the departure location and the airline which was due to operate the disrupted flight.

The table below provides guidance on whether your flight is covered by European legislation:

Table 1
Iceland, Norway and Switzerland are as an EU Member State for the purpose of passenger rights.

For more details, please visit AESA’s website

Whether these rights apply or not, we encourage airlines to do all they can to minimise the overall impact on their passengers by keeping them informed and looking after them.

We advise all passengers on one hand,  to check  Spanish Foreign Affairs Minister website where more specific information is available depending on the country; and on the other hand, confirm their flight status with their airline ahead of travelling to the airport
