Application of the SORA 2.5 methodology

Transition period for UAS operators

Due to the publication on 29 September of the SORA 2.5 methodology by EASA as a valid methodology for carrying out risk assessment in operations in a specific category, the following is reported:

1. UAS operators who have submitted an application for authorisation using SORA 2.0 do not have to submit new documentation, nor do they have to carry out any additional procedures.
2. Although the SORA 2.5 methodology is immediately applicable, applications for authorisation may continue to be submitted in accordance with SORA 2.0 until 17/11/2025, the authorisations of which shall be granted for a maximum period of 1 year.
3. From 18/11/2025 the IT application will only be enabled to submit applications in accordance with the SORA 2.5 methodology.
4. Authorization modifications processed in accordance with SORA 2.0 that involve more change than adding serial numbers of the UAS models already included in your authorization, will require the application for a new authorization in accordance with SORA 2.5 from 18/11/25.
5. To facilitate the transition to the new methodology, prior to the date indicated, the formats and guidance material necessary for the application for authorisations will be replaced on the EASA website with the new methodology. Additionally, an information day will be held to clarify any doubts that may arise.
