The State Aviation Safety Agency (AESA) today presented the White Paper on Unmanned Systems (UAS) in Spain. developed by its UAS Center of Excellence.

This document is an updated version of the previous White Paper that identified the challenges in the field of research, development and innovation (R & D & I) to boost unmanned aircraft systems in Spain. It aims to glimpse what should be the challenges of research, development and innovation that allow Spain to move towards the leadership of one of the sectors with the most future in the current technological landscape.

As a novelty, on this occasion, it includes a new area of action, related to sustainability. In addition, the English version of the White Paper has also been submitted.

The director of AESA, Montserrat Mestres, highlighted during the presentation that “collaboration between companies, universities and public administration is the key to laying the foundations that mark how we have to work in the present and how the future should develop within the technology sector of drones”, as has happened for the elaboration of the White Paper.

During the presentation, representatives of the Committee of Experts participated in its elaboration, with speakers from UC3M, Airbus, Enaire, Aracnocopter and Assure. The participants have reviewed the current situation of drones in Spain, highlighting some leading projects that are currently being worked on.

They have also participated in the presentation of this White Paper, Marta Lestau, Director of Aircraft Safety of AESA, and Juan José Sola, Head of the Unmanned Aircraft Division (UAS) of AESA, who have reviewed the regulatory advances that have occurred in the field of drones.

AESA Centre of Excellence

The AESA Drones Centre of Excellence is an initiative for research and development promoted and led by AESA and coordinated and supported by Universities and Industry aimed at identifying and supporting the development of R&D&I, in line with the challenges of the aeronautical sector and the aeronautical industry in areas considered of special relevance and where research is necessary to support decision-making and the identification of solutions.
