Madrid, 7 February 2022 (AESA)

The State Aviation Safety Agency (AESA) has updated the Air Sector Information Circular on the detection of possible 5G telephony interference with civil aircraft radio altimeters.

Despite the fact that AESA is currently unaware of any incident or incident related to this situation in our country, given the reactivation in the US of the problems regarding the possible interference of 5G telephone equipment and devices with radio altimeters, the Agency has updated, with the latest information available, the Information Circular it issued in December 2020.

To this end, the Agency, within the preventive approach to safety, has updated this document for the sector in Spain, in which it reports on the situation at European level and contains a non-exhaustive list of possible actions for organisations in order to be able to carry out an adequate early detection and notification through EASA’s HRS in the event that the problems raised are confirmed.
