Design and production RPAS

IMPORTANT: This section applies only to remotely piloted aircraft operators (RPAS) performing “non-EASA activities or services”.

Obligations of the RPAS manufacturer

The RPAS manufacturer shall:

• Prepare for each aircraft the documentation relating to its characterisation, including the definition of its configuration, characteristics and performance, as well as the procedures for its piloting, and a declaration of conformity of the aircraft with such characterisation, which shall be delivered to the operator together with the aircraft.
• develop and develop a manual or set of manuals describing its operation, maintenance and inspection. These manuals shall include guidelines for carrying out the necessary inspection, maintenance and repair tasks at the appropriate and specific levels of the aircraft and its associated systems (RPAS) and shall be provided to the operator together with the aircraft.

The above documentation shall include at least the content indicated in Appendix D on Acceptable Means of Compliance relating to the characterisation of the RPAS and Appendix Ñ on Acceptable Means of Compliance relating to the maintenance manual, both available in the Acceptable Means of Compliance section and guide material on the AESA website.

Equipment requirements

RPAS must meet additional equipment requirements depending on the operational scenario in which they are to be used. The Acceptable Means of Compliance related to equipment requirements are developed in Appendix O on Acceptable Means of Compliance relating to equipment requirements for RPAS operation, available in the Acceptable Means of Compliance and Guide Material section of the EASA website.
